The Digital Inquiry Group—known as DIG for short— is an independent nonprofit organization. Founded by Sam Wineburg in 2002 at Stanford University as the Stanford History Education Group (SHEG), our history education and civic online reasoning curriculum has over 14 million downloads and is used in all 50 states and around the globe.
Today, our work is focused on reaching people of all ages and preparing them to make sense of the past and navigate our digital present. We believe that these skills are critical to strengthen our democracy and empower individuals to make informed decisions for themselves and their communities.
