Civic Online Reasoning (3-Unit Course)

Dates: October 14 – November 8

About: In this 10-hour course, participants will learn about research-backed strategies for effectively evaluating online information and explore free curricular resources developed by the Digital Inquiry Group for teaching students these vital skills. The course will also address common student misconceptions and the pitfalls of outdated approaches to teaching digital literacy. The course will include three modules:

  • Module 1: Search like a fact checker with lateral reading
  • Module 2: Verifying claims on social media and click restraint
  • Module 3: Evaluating different types of online sources
  • Step 1 : Click the button above to enroll in the course. If you do not have an account, you will be redirected to the sign up page. This account is separate from your standard inquirygroup.org account. Even if you already have an account on the inquirygroup.org, you will need to create a new course account.  

 
  • Step 2 : Once you create your course account, you will receive an account activation email like the image below. Click on the red “Activate Your Account” button.
 
  • Step 3 : Once you activate your account, click the “View My Courses” button in the menu to access the course. If you do not see the course, click this link.

 
  • Step 4 : Click the course to begin. 

 
 
  • Q: I already have an account with the Digital Inquiry Group, but I’m unable to log into the course website.
    • A: Your learn.inquirygroup.org account is separate from your standard inquirygroup.org account. Even if you already have an account on the inquirygroup.org, you will need to create a new course account.
 
  • Q: I forgot my account password!
    • To reset your TeacherMoments (practice spaces) password, click here.
    • To reset your Learn.Inquirygroup.org (course website) password, email learn@inquirygroup.org
    • To reset your Discourse (discussion forums) password, click your profile icon> Preferences>Security>Send Password Reset Email.
